2011 State Championships with Norwegian Blue, Spinifex and Under the Radar.

Welcome to the Tasmania NS14 Association. The NS14 is an Australian designed sailing dinghy, intended for competitive family sailing. It has a simple rig, is light enough to be lifted from a trailer (fully rigged) into the water by 3 persons of average strength, requires only reasonable fitness to sail, and is affordable by the private sailor.

31/10/11 - Tasmanian Update
The first big event of the season is on this weekend and the weather forecast is looking good with temps in the 20's. You can enter the Showdown regatta on line at ...

http://www.theshowdown.com.au/

This event is the first to be counted in this seasons Travellers Trophy so I would hope to see a reasonable fleet of NS14's on the water. I have entered and I need someone to race against.

See you there
Scott W, Norwegian Blue

09/09/11 - Tasmanian Update
Opening day at the clubs is not far away and I have been informed are they are on the following dates:

PDYC is Sunday 2 October
TYC is Saturday 8 October
LSC is Sunday 25 September
Midway Point is 2 October ?

If you have any other dates or I have it wrong, let me know.

For those that don’t know, Darren Eggins is now the National President, with Helen being delegated as secretary and I am the National Treasurer. This is the first time Tasmanians have had the reins of the Association.

On the State side of things, we will be hosting the National Championships at PDYC in December 2012. We are about to start the organisation of this event and we will need all the help we can get. We require some members, family and friends (you don’t have to be on the committee to help organise) to be involved. If you want to be involved let us know, there are plenty of jobs to go around. This will be my third Nationals event that I will help organise and many hands make it a lot easier.

We should have our state NS event calendar organised soon but the first big regatta is the Showdown Regatta on the 5 & 6 November at the Royal Yacht Club. I sailed this event two years ago and it was a well run regatta and the racing was great. We only had a few boats competing but it was a great event and the prizes were great. Unfortunately last year I was working and couldn’t go. I don’t think anyone else did either and it was noticed and commented on by some of the organisers. Planning to sail this event (and the other big regattas) together as a fleet, is a great way to show off the class and to enjoy each others company on and off the water. Make a decision now to sail it and put it on the calendar.

That’s all for now, if you have something you wish to communicate with everyone send it to me and I will add it to the next update.

Cheers
Scott Wilkie

10/06/11 - NS14 Tasmanian State Championships 2011
The State Championships for 2011 were held over the March long weekend at the Tamar Yacht Club, Beauty Point. Racing was extremely close with five different heat winners and it all came down to the last 2 races on the third day. The first heat went to Mitch Ranson and Warwick McLean sailing a Tiger "Under the Radar" they set the standard for the weekend.

Katherine and Karen Davis, sailing an Aero 9 "Go with the Flow" surprised everyone by being one of the leading boats throughout the series. Katherine is one of the States up and coming junior sailors and we will be watching her progress with great interest. Peter and Mathew Davis sailing their Tiger "Spinifex" had a disappointing start to the series but came back strongly with the only crew to win two heats.

The light wind conditions favoured the lighter crews with defending champion Darren Eggins and crew, Gail Morton in "Pumpkin Eater" too heavy to defend last years championship win. The other heat winner, super light team Dennis Leitch and Natalie Roberts sailing an Aero 10 "Gum Blossom" fought hard against the other teams.

The results showed the story with only four points separating the top four boats. In the end with the last race abandoned due to the lack of wind, Scott and Natasha Wilkie sailing a Tequila 99 "Norwegian Blue" came out on top as this years State Champions.

We also have a facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/NS14-Association-of-Tasmania/184344041605829. We now have all our photos there as the netspace gallery is closing down.

We had a 40th anniversary regatta in early April with 11 boats competing. All sailed by past and present state champions, representing over thirty years of champions. We all sailed borrowed boats and it was a great short course series in blustery northerlies. The photos are on the facebook page.

25/03/10 - New State Champions Darren and Joshua Eggins
Congratulations to our New State Champions Darren and Joshua Eggins sailing Pumpkin Eater After the blow of the Crown Series the previous week, conditions on the Derwent River were very light and unpredictable for the three day regatta sailed out of Lindisfarne Sailing Club.

Every race had light to variable conditions and at times it was a lottery. Every wind direction imaginable was experienced. Darren and Josh overcame the conditions to win the series convincingly over his closest rivals with very good and consistent sailing throughout the series.
