Boats competing in the 2008 NSW State Championships on Botany Bay

Welcome to the NSW NS14 Association. The NS14 is an Australian designed sailing dinghy, intended for competitive family sailing. It has a simple rig, is light enough to be lifted from a trailer (fully rigged) into the water by 3 persons of average strength, requires only reasonable fitness to sail, and is affordable by the private sailor.

08/12/08 - 2008/09 NSW Sprint Series
Surprise – yet again! Chipping Norton Lake belied its reputation and produced decent wind for the NSW Sprint Series held on 6th December. However, as usual the wind was bouncy and with variable direction which kept everyone on their toes. With four short races on a short course there was plenty of opportunity to practice crew work. It was also hot – 36 degrees.
In the first race a tight battle between Tigger Too, Drum and No-Mad resulted in No-Mad just sneaking past the other two on the line. The second race saw Tigger Too getting into rhythm which they maintained for the remaining races. No-Mad’s local knowledge kept them up in second spot without too much trouble, although they had to work a bit in the last race to slip in front of Tigger at the last mark. Drum’s early form waned and Finger Lickin Good (recognising her previous home) started to improve. Beach 25 had flashes of brilliance with a third in one race with Devil well up with the others but suffering with missing the first race. The other two local boats, Bondi Tram and Nicorette (sporting her dazzling new yellow and black livery) played together further back. Overall a good day – thanks to CNLSC for the hospitality. 15/10/08 - Jervis Bay Regatta
This is a third hand summary of what happened at the Jervis Bay regatta on 4th/5th October where the weather sounded pretty miserable with little wind – unfortunate as it is usually a great place to sail. The regatta, which attracted 52 boats in total, completed 4 of the intended 5 heats with four divisions of mixed classes; the NSs sailed against the usual mix B14s, MGs, I14s, Sharpies, Contenders and 505s. Four NSs from Connells Point competed with the second and third heats counting to the TT series.

Jon & Karen Branch in Mojo came 3rd in the division after a B14 and 505. Eric & Lois Wiseman in Blue Moon came 7th followed by Tim Dunstan & Chrissy Stewart on UpRoar. Ian & Susan Ritchie obviously suffered turbulence on Jetlagged coming 15th out of the seventeen boats in the division.
