NSW News and Information
31/1/12 - NSW Update
What a great Nationals! Commiserations to those that missed the fantastic, exhilarating reaches down the big sea rollers, pounding works to a top mark only found by the red flag at the top of a yacht’s mast and a start on the surf break off Cronulla township! Magic! 59 boats – biggest for fourteen years. Fantastic work Cronulla Sailing Club and thanks to our major sponsor Zhik and to Rob Brewer for providing the jib for 1st on handicap and Ronstan and the other contributors that Neil persuaded to support the class.
But now that everyone is fully recovered from holidays, Christmas/New Year excesses and the Nationals we can all concentrate on the second part of the season!
First up is the Single Handed Championship hosted by Chipping Norton Lake Sailing Club on 4th/5th February. Details are attached and more information can be found at http://www.cnlsc.org.au/. This is a whole different dimension of NS14 sailing and can teach you a lot about your boat – and you! Easy rigging and launching area, friendly locals and there is a nice trophy to win but the competition is hot!

The first leg of the Metropolitan Trophy (MT) will be held at Concord & Ryde Sailing Club on 11th February – NOR below. This year the series will be over four races sailed at two clubs. The first race at C&RSC will be around 1200hrs with time for a quick trip in for lunch before the afternoon race with the club – around 1430hrs. The canteen will be in full flight so come and join the club’s hospitality. The second leg of the series will be on 18th March at Northbridge Sailing Club. Both clubs have great viewing for spectators.

The Richard Morcom Memorial Trophy is held as part of the Twofold Bay Regatta at Eden on 18th and 19th February – see http://www.twofoldbayyc.sailing.org.au/?ID=44132 for NOR entry and more information. Great place to sail and a fun weekend away.
And then the Sprint Series, this year hosted by Teralba Amateur Sailing Club on 4th March.
Which will allow you to practice your starts for the NSW States at Georges
River 16ft Sailing Club from 6th April to 9th April which is followed by the CHS at Belmont 16 Footers for those at high school.
Move around as a club team and enjoy the competition and camaraderie.
19/12/11 - NSW State Championships
A new venue for the 2012 NSW State Championship has been confirmed.
The regatta will now be hosted by Georges
River 16ft Sailing Club over Easter, 6th-9th April. This is
another premier sailing club used to holding major regattas on
Botany Bay. It has a large rigging and parking area and spectators
can see much of the action from the shoreline not far from the
club. More information will be circulated as soon as possible.
29/11/11 - Gosford TT start times and States venue
The second part of the Travellers Trophy is this weekend (3rd/4th
December) at Gosford
Sailing Club. Plan is for a longer race on Saturday mixing
it with the normal club racing followed by two races on Sunday.
Start time for the Saturday race will be 14:00hrs so you should
have plenty of time to get there. Sunday will probably be around
11:00hrs but will depend on the wind etc. Club canteen will be
open and there will be a sausage sizzle. The club is licenced.
Should be good fun and a great venue to showcase the class, not
only to the growing local fleet but also to the large fleet of
F11s that will be there too. Download

Entries for the Nationals need to be in by this weekend
to avoid being a late entry so no more procrastination! Put the
money in the account and email the forms – NOW! Details,
NOR and entry form for the Nationals can be found here.
A reminder of the changes
to the NOR/SI that will permit registered MG14s to enter NS14
class regattas under certain conditions; the essential changes
are attached and crew must satisfy the NS14 membership criteria
in the NOR/SI.
Entries to Sail Sydney also need to be in by
this weekend – details, NOR and on-line entry can be found
at http://www.sailsyd.yachting.org.au/.
There are under 18yrs and over 18yrs parties on Saturday night
so don’t miss out on the sailing social scene as well as
the sailing itself. Remember the class will rebate the annual
membership fee for those NS14s that sail the regatta which will
be out of Woollahra
Sailing Club.
The key regatta in the second half of the season will be the NSW
State Championship held over Easter, this year 6th – 9th
April. The venue for the 2012 States is the Middle
Harbour 16ft Skiff Club which is located at The Spit with
possible courses on the sound between the three heads and into
Middle Harbour. This should be a tremendous location with marvellous
sailing and great socialising. More details will be posted shortly
but in the meantime get into some good action at Cronulla and
then bring your skills to Middle Harbour at Easter.
And don’t forget to renew
your membership for the 2011/12 season.
5/11/11 - Lots of important news in this update!!
NOR for the Travellers Trophy – note the change to the
class rules as accepted by the National Executive on a trial basis.
The first leg of the TT is at Manning Point on 12th/13th November
which is also the second part of the Rivers series; the second
leg of the TT is at Gosford Sailing Club <http://www.gosfordsailingclub.com.au/>
on 3rd/4th December.
Some suggested accommodation options for Manning Point:
Weeroona Holiday Park - Ph 65532635
East’s Ocean Shores Caravan Park - Ph 65532624
The Pines Holiday Units - Ph LJ Hooker Old Bar 65537133
Manning Point Hideaway Holiday Cabins - Ph 65532928
Manning Point also has two cafés and a shop for basics.
The licenced bowling club also does meals so you can stay for
dinner on Saturday night.
Sail Sydney is on 16th-18th December. This major
regatta involves many off-the-beach classes and will be sailed
in several locations around Sydney; the NS14s sail out of Woollahra
Sailing Club <http://www.woollahrasailingclub.org.au/>
. This should be a great promotional activity for the class if
we can put together a big fleet. To encourage as many boats as
possible to participate the NSW Committee has agreed to ***waive
the class annual membership fee*** for all those that sail in
the regatta (you will still need to complete and send in a membership
form to the treasurer) – saving you $50! NOR for the regatta
can be found at http://www.sailsyd.yachting.org.au/.
The Nationals is fast approaching; sailing will be on
Bate Bay off Cronulla Beach from 27th December to 3rd January
and hosted by Cronulla Sailing Club <http://www.cronullasc.com/>
. The Social Form
is now available for download – don’t forget to
send this in with your entry.
Information
and NOR can
be found on the class website. The Sailing Instructions will include
amendments to the class rules as outlined in the TT
NOR. This will be a great event so make sure you are there!

Can’t get to the Nationals yourself? How
would you like to charter your boat for the regatta so someone
else can sail? Or perhaps you need a crew? Or maybe you would
like to lend a hand if you are not sailing – timekeepers,
rescue boat crew, canteen etc? Whichever way, contact the Race
Secretary, Neil Tasker at barracouta@bigpond.com.
And thinking of after Christmas there is the Single-Handed Championship
at Chipping Norton on 4th/5th February, followed by the first
leg of the Metropolitan Trophy at Concord Ryde on 11th February.
Another reminder to renew
your association membership. The form is available for downlaod
– if you sail at Sail Sydney you will have your fee waived
but you still need to complete the form! Fees will be returned
for those entering Sail Sydney who have already renewed their
membership.
09/09/11 - NSW 2011/ 2012 Season Update
Well, the season is underway - at least for those with a good
wetsuit! To get your planning organised attached is the calendar
formatted two different ways. Note that there is more

website
Remember that the October long weekend has both the NSW Youth
Championships – see http://ynswyouthchamps.org.au/

see http://www.jervisbaysailingclub.com/
.
It is also renewal time for Association Membership. The association’s
membership year runs from 1st July to 30th June each year so even
if you joined the association at the end of last season you must
renew your membership
for the 2011/12 season. Please ensure you follow the submission
details correctly, they are different from last year.
There has no doubt been some movement of boats over the winter.
So the Register on the website can be updated please advise of
any changes you are aware of by emailing tait_fam@bigpond.net.au.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the water soon.
30/08/10 - Boat Rigging, BBQ and The Rules
On a crisp late winter's (translation: great in the sun, chilly
in the shade) twenty five or so Sydney sailors attended the NS14
