Malcolm Page and Fiona Elliott in "Fizzy" at the 2008/09 NS14 National Championships, Adelaide

Welcome to the NS14 official website. The NS14 is an Australian designed sailing dinghy, intended for competitive family sailing. It has a simple rig, is light enough to be lifted from a trailer (fully rigged) into the water by 3 persons of average strength, requires only reasonable fitness to sail, and is affordable by the private sailor.

NS14 News and Information

02/01/09 - 2008/09 National Championship UPDATE

The NS14 National Championships are now well underway. Further updates and images will be available soon.

Race 1 was sailed under very trying conditions with the breeze almost completely dying only a few minutes into the first leg. A couple of boats made it around the top mark before the tide got hold of them, but the majority of the fleet spent a frustrating hour or so trying to get up to the mark. Eventually the breeze picked up to 3-5 knots and we were all back underway, but the lead boats had extended an unattainable lead. The race was finished at the wing mark on a shortened course just as the breeze kicked in to around 10 knots. Tigger Too (Hugh Tait and Tom Potter) was the winner by 1 second over Fizzy (Malcolm Page and Fiona Elliot).

Races 2 and 3 were held back to back on day two in light to moderate winds. Race 2 was subject to a general recall as everyone was a bit too keen to get going. Once the fleet got away cleanly the rest of the day was fairly uneventful. Fizzy took out both heats to take the lead in the series.

Race 4 was started in 20-25 knots and a nearly 2 metre swell in conditions that saw many entrants not even make the start line due to gear failure and early fatigue. Due to the strong breezes and the speeds obtained, the race was over quite quickly, with most of the boats that crossed the start line also finishing. Tigger Too was the winner with Peter and Kathryn Davis in Spinifex second. The run back into the beach after the race was just as difficult as the race itself with Dark Horse being dismasted on the way in. The club grounds looked more like a boat yard as everyone scrambled to get back on the water for the next day’s racing.

At the end of race 4, Tigger Too was leading from Fizzy and Spinifex.

28/11/08 - ACT Titles
The 41st ACT NS14 Championships were held on the weekend of 22-23 November 2008 on Lake Burley Griffin in windy, cold conditions. Squalls were coming across the water at up to 34 knots, snow was falling on the ranges and the wind chill factor had the evening news reporting the Saturday temperature at just 2 degrees. I was sure I heard Alex Chittenden of Beach Twenty Five being given some sage advice along the lines of ‘be careful of the bullets on this Lake – they’re evil’….. Full Story
